People are asking how the cantoloupes are getting contaminated with listeria. Some experts are saying hard to clean machinery, stagnant water on the floor, and failure to cool newly harvested cantaloupe before sending them to cold storage caused the outbreak. Our team believes it all began with infected cantoloupes. Listeria thrives in soil and water, and feeds on decaying roots alowing it to get in the cantoloupes. Then the listeria on the cantoloupe got on to the hard to clean machines. So instead of cleaning the cantoloupes it contaminated them. This is how we think the cantoloupes are getting infected with listeria.
